yo lucho tus batallas
mientras otros
te dan el zarpazo
amparados
en la oscuridad de la noche.
Yo te amo
y construyo
y te doy lo mejor de mí
mientras otros
te dan las espaldas
y son insensibles al hambre
y miseria
de muchos hermanos.
La angustia de mi prójimo
no les conmueve,
pero encubren su hipocresía
con el diezmo y la limosna.
Hipócritas,
un día
mi amigo Jesús
les reclamará mucho.
Patria mía,
con tierno amor te amo
y lloro tu llanto
y río tu risa
mientras otros
se empeñan en destruir
el cimiento de tu fe.
Patria mía,
mi dulce Guatemala
te entrego mi ternura
en un verso
y mis flores silvestres.
Hermano: me entristece ver
el futuro sombrío
de nuestra patria.
Y me duelo también
por aquellos hermanos
que se perdieron
en la oscuridad de la noche.
Y una canción triste
de alondras
se mete en los tuétanos
de mis huesos
y lloro.
Tantas lágrimas jateadas
en el rancho triste y solitario

mortifican

alumbra nuestras conciencias
